• that doesn't sound fun. water is bad for the wiring, and just about any metal components that can't (won't) dryout on their own. (like under carpet etc ) as far as starting the engine, if water didn't make it above the air intake, or any of the dipsticks, it should be ok. if it made it over the top of the engine, a complete drain/fill of all the oil based fluids would be prudent. if the air filter is wet, that's a sure sign water got to the intake. with good fluids in it, it's not too labor intensive to evacuate the intake/combustion chamber of water. starting with pulling the air intake apart and making sure it's dry from intake to combustion. for the cylinders, pull all the spark plugs, spray in a little wd-40, pull the main wire from the coil to the distributor (so all the plug wires aren't sparking) and turn the engine over a few times. if there's water in there, it'll shoot out the spark plug holes. after it seems to stop (5-6 turns?), replace the plugs, and the coil-distributor wire, and it should fire up, with maybe a little hesitation to do all of this shouldn't take a mechanic more than hour or so. i did this on my cu engine in my boat and it worked great.
